The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) and Child Health in Life and Disease (ChildD) are excited to bring you the one-day 'Paediatric Gastrointestinal and Immunological Disease in Practice' virtual course as part of the National Paediatric Training Course.

Learning Objectives:

Management of Gastrointestinal Disorders:

  • Understand the medical and nutritional management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Calculate micro and macro requirements of a child with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
  • Accurately prescribe exclusive enteral nutrition for a child with Crohn’s disease.
  • Understand the diagnosis of coeliac disease and the common nutritional deficiencies associated with the condition.
  • Understand the differences between primary and secondary lactose and other disaccharide intolerances.
  • Understand the causes of childhood constipation and the medical and nutritional treatment approaches.

 

Management of Complex Food Allergies:

  • Understand the current allergy epidemic and recommendations for prevention.
  • Describe the different presentations of IgE-and non IgE-mediated food allergy.
  • Apply knowledge to assess and plan dietetic management for an infant or child with food allergy.

 

Educators: 

Julia Fox has been a clinical paediatric dietitian for over 15 years and is currently the Clinical Leader of Dietetic Services for Surgical and Gastroenterology services at a large tertiary hospital in Queensland. Julia is a recognised leader in the clinical dietetic management of children with dependence on parenteral nutrition, and the nutritional management of children with complex gastrointestinal disorders and has presented at national and international scientific meetings on these areas. Julia has utilised her skills to advocate for and achieve formal improvements in service delivery, particularly in the area of parenteral nutrition. Julia is on the council for Australasian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (AuSPEN) and recently established and chairs the Paediatric Committee for AuSPEN. 

Kathy Beck is an Accredited Practising Dietitian working in private practice in Brisbane with a special interest in paediatric food allergy. Kathy is a founding member of ChildD and the original paediatric course (National Paediatric Dietetics Training Course) in 2016. Kathy's passion is supporting families with infants and children living with food allergy to have a better quality of life when attempting to avoid allergens and adequately substitute to achieve a nutritionally adequate intake. Kathy is the Chair of the Dietitian Committee of the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) and works collaboratively with other ASCIA members to provide evidence based, up-to-date practical and educational resources for dietitians and families living with food allergy.

Pre-Reading: You will be uploaded to the Learning Management System (LMS) on 13 October to access pre-reading materials before the live course on 19 October.

Access to the course: Those who register by 12 October will have access to the LMS from 13 October. Those who register after 12 October will be uploaded to the LMS on 18 October. Access to the LMS will close for all registrants on 26 October 2021. Any materials you wish to keep must be downloaded by 26 October.

Your CPD logs will be automatically updated after this course. This course is worth 14 CPD hours (including both pre-reading and course time). 

Certificate:
You will be emailed your Professional Certificate within 1-3 business days of the live course.
