The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) and Child Health in Life and Disease (ChildD) are excited to bring you the one-day virtual course as part of the National Paediatric Training Course. 

Learning outcomes:

Infants, Children's and Maternity Nutrition:

  • Understand key nutrition principals in maternal, infant and children's nutrition and to become familiar with the evidence supporting this 
  • Understand general nutritional requirements and to determine the nutritional status of pregnant women, infants, and children
  • Become familiar with current guidelines supporting maternal, infant and children's nutrition
  • Identify key nutrients at risk during pregnancy, infancy and childhood
  • Understand common nutritional issues arising during pregnancy, infancy and childhood, and how to manage this 
  • Plan appropriate nutrition interventions to support at risk pregnant women, infants and children

Management of Complex Food Allergies: 

  • Understand the current allergy epidemic and recommendations for prevention
  • Describe the different presentations of IgE- and non IgE-mediated food allergy
  • Apply knowledge to assess and plan dietetic management for an infant or child with food allergy

 

Educators:  

Catherine Bonifant has been a clinical paediatric dietitian for over 20 years, and is currently undertaking consultancy work within private enterprise. Catherine was a Clinical Leader of Dietetic Services at the Queensland Children's Hospital for 8 years, and was a Clinical Specialist Dietitian at the Royal Children's Hospital for nearly 10 years prior to this. Catherine has been a recognised leader in the clinical dietetic management of inborn errors of metabolism, and the nutritional management of respiratory disorders, including cystic fibrosis, and has presented at national and international scientific meetings on these areas. Additionally, Catherine has authored book chapters, journal articles and conference abstracts on these topics. Catherine has previously work at Nutrition Australia within the Childcare Advisory Service, with Save the Children Fund, in private practice, and with elite athletes and teams. Catherine has a special interest in infant and pre-school nutrition, and in nutrition education and advocacy. Catherine is an Accredited Practising Dietitian. 

Kathy Beck is an Accredited Practising Dietitian working in private practice in Brisbane with a special interest in paediatric food allergy. Kathy is a founding member of ChildD and the original paediatric course (National Paediatric Dietetics Training Course) in 2016. Kathy's passion is supporting families with infants and children living with food allergy to have a better quality of life when attempting to avoid allergens and adequately substitute to achieve a nutritionally adequate intake. Kathy is the Chair of the Dietitian Committee of the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) and works collaboratively with other ASCIA members to provide evidence based, up-to-date practical and educational resources for dietitians and families living with food allergy.

Access to the course: Those who register by 9 April 2023 will have access to the LMS from 10 April 2023. Those who register after 9 April 2023 will be uploaded to the LMS on 14 April 2023. Access to the LMS will end of all registrants on 1 May 2023. Any materials you wish to keep must be downloaded by 1 May 2023.

CPD Logs: Your CPD logs will be automatically updated after this course. This course is worth 14 CPD hours (including both pre-reading and course time).
