The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) and Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) are excited to bring you the 'Supporting Clients with Communication Disability in Practice' virtual course. This course is available as part of the Capacity Building for Dietitians in Disability (CBDD) education program.  

This course was designed for dietitians who have completed the Introduction to Disability and Inclusion for Dietitians Evergreen course.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand communication as a human right 
  • Explain how communication disability is experienced in relation to the World Health Organisation's (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)
  • Understand how to engage a person with communication disability using tools and strategies
  • Experience communicating with a person with an expressive communication disability 
  • Experience communicating with a person with a receptive communication disability 
  • Learn practical strategies to support a person with a communication disability within your practice 
  • Learn about the steps towards gaining the Communication Access Symbol accreditation 

 

Educator

Georgia Burn is a speech pathologist and PhD candidate in Communication Access. Georgia works with Scope's Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC), a national leader in the provision of consultancy and access services to facilitate the inclusion of Australians. Georgia led the development of the Communication module in the Introduction to Disability and Inclusion for Dietitians Evergreen course through collaboration with a team of speech pathologists and colleagues with lived experience of communication disability. 

This in Practice session is worth 3 CPD hours. CPD logs will be updated automatically in the days following the event.
