Better engagement, rapport, and client outcomes in time limited settings!

ACT is an evidenced based intervention, focused on acceptance, mindfulness, and values-guided change. It is a modality ideal for people working in time limited settings such as public mental health, eating disorder treatment settings and community health settings.  A case study will be used throughout the series to assist attendees to understand the application of ACT principles with nutrition counselling.

This webinar series will provide attendees with an overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with a particular focus on the application of mindfulness and values to support eating behaviour change. Participants will be supported in the development of introductory ACT skills and the use of values to support clients with eating behaviour change.

This will be the first in a three-part webinar series:

Part 1: Overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy will focus on:

  • The ACT framework
  • Name the six core processes of ACT

This webinar is brought to you by the Mental Health Interest Group (2024).

Application into practice:

- Dietitians can integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into their practice by guiding clients to accept their thoughts and feelings about food while focusing on committed actions aligned with their health goals. Incorporating mindfulness and behavioural techniques, they can help clients cultivate a flexible relationship with food and make sustainable lifestyle changes.

- Dietitians will be able to explain the function of control and workability, with difficult thoughts and feelings clients have about food, weight and body image. Attendees will be able to identify ways of applying mindfulness, exploring values clarification and developing values orientated goals with patients.
