Providing Person Centred, Trauma Informed Nutrition Care For People Living With Psychosocial Disabilities

Providing Person Centred, Trauma Informed Nutrition Care For People Living With Psychosocial Disabilities
This learning module gives dietitians the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills to effectively support the clinical care of people with a range of psychosocial disabilities.

Through supportive discussions and evidenced-based theory, Dietitians can build their confidence and understanding of the role of a dietitian within the clinical care of people with psychosocial disabilities.

This online workshop is brought to you by Dietitians Australia's Capacity Building in Disability for Dietitians Program and is hosted by Jacinta Sherlock (APD, CEDC).

This module content was originally delivered as a full-day, live workshop. Key takeaways from the workshop have now been reimagined into an online, self-paced learning module available on the Learning Portal.

Learning outcomes:
- to identify characteristics of common psychosocial disabilities
- to describe common nutritional presentations associated with different conditions and apply the nutrition care process
- to outline how multidisciplinary team members can assist in supporting consumer skill development and capacity building to support the achievement of nutrition goals
- to list key behaviour change techniques that can be used in the nutrition care process
- to explain the importance of scope of practice and supervision in providing safe nutrition care and counselling
- to describe the key components of person centred, trauma informed care and how this can be integrated with the nutrition care process

Speaker:

Jacinta Sherlock (any), an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Credentialed Eating Disorder Dietitian, has over 10 years of experience in public and private mental health settings. Jacinta is the Director of Dietetics Done Differently and the convenor of the Mental Health Interest Group. Additionally, Jacinta has completed comprehensive training in Motivational Interviewing and extensive and ongoing training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, providing people with a supportive, therapeutic space to share their stories.
