Speakers:

Dr. Annabelle Wilson is a Senior Research Fellow and Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian (AdvAPD) with extensive experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. Her PhD was awarded in 2021, entitled 'Addressing Uncomfortable Issues: The role of White health professionals in Aboriginal Health'. She has worked with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people both as a dietitian and a researcher in urban, rural, and remote communities across Australia. She has a strong commitment to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and to ethical research and practice.

Dr. Anthea Brand is an experienced public health/community Dietitian who has more than 20 years experience working in rural and remote Australia. Throughout her career Anthea has worked extensively with people from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people who have recently migrated to Australia. She has worked in clinical and public health settings and over time shifted her career to focus on preventative health, particularly the establishment of health eating behaviors in infancy. Recognising that the nutrition activities undertaken by Dietitians and other health professionals may not meet the needs of people from minority groups, Anthea commenced a PhD to better understand the needs and experiences of Aboriginal caregivers living in remote areas when feeding young children. This allowed her to work closely with families in a way that was unconstrained by health service expectations. Anthea shares her insights and learning of truly working at the cultural interface to better meet the needs of the diverse people we work with.

Danielle Aquino is a Public Health Dietitian/Nutritionist with over 20 years' experience working in remote areas of northern Australia and Vanuatu. She has worked in various nutrition, maternal and child health, and community programs. She is undertaking PhD research exploring family food practices in a remote Aboriginal community. Danielle is currently working at Menzies School of Health Research coordinating the evaluation of the Maternal and Early Childhood Sustained Nurse Home visiting (MECSH) program in the Northern Territory.

Noell Burgess (APD) completed a Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics with Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She has worked in the areas of Community Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Tertiary Education and Private Practice for over 20 years, and more recently has commenced working with Health North Coast as an Aboriginal Health Coordinator based at Tweed Heads. Noell was the first Australian Aboriginal Dietitian and has worked in both remote and urban settings with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. She was involved in development of the Dietitians Australia Reconciliation Action Plan. She is passionate about encouraging the next generation of dietitians to be educated about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture and to understand how to communicate and work with our First Nations People.
