- Update on latest evidence-based practice regarding nutritional management of kidney disease (focus the KDOQI Clinical Practice - Guideline for Nutrition in CKD and an update on obesity management in CKD)

Speakers:

Dr. Kelly Lambert is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian with qualifications in knowledge translation, health economics and management, and two decades of experience as a renal dietitian and a doctorate investigating health literacy and cognitive impairment in end stage kidney disease. Dr. Lambert was awarded her PhD from the University of Wollongong in 2018. In 2020, she completed a 2 year NHMRC Translating Research Into Practice Fellowship to implement a new model of care for renal dietitians in the outpatient setting. She is a member of the Kidney Health Australia CARI Executive Steering committee and the ANZSN Dialysis Advisory Committee. Kelly's research interests and values are targeted at supporting people with kidney disease to live better lives and improving patient education by health professionals for patients. Kelly is passionate about developing patient education materials that accommodate the barriers faced by people with kidney disease including health literacy and cognitive impairment.

Dr. Helen MacLaughlin is a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics at QUT and Advanced Clinician Researcher at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Metro North Hospital and Health Services, Queensland Health. She is a clinical academic dietitian working in research, clinical dietetics and in training our future dietitians. She started her career at Royal Brisbane, before heading overseas, spending 10 years as the lead renal dietitian at King's College Hospital in London. She was awarded her PhD from King's College London in 2013, and followed this with a prestigious National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and Health Education England (HEE) post-doctoral Clinical Lectureship. Her research focus is on nutritional interventions to improve outcomes for patients with kidney disease, with an expert interest in weight loss interventions.
