The Gut: Health vs. Hype

The Gut: Health vs. Hype
This webinar is brought to you by the DA Tasmania Engagement and Development Committee (2020).

This year has brought tremendous change to the way we work as dietitians. Although this has been a challenge, our connection as a profession should not suffer! The COVID pandemic has meant that our usual Tasmanian Dietitian’s Weekend Workshop could not go ahead, however our special telehealth event will allow you to connect to colleagues, listen to great speakers, win prizes and build your CPD hours for 2020 all at once!

Join us to learn the latest on gut health, the gut microbiome, and evidence-based pre and probiotics in the treatment of IBS. Be inspired to take some simple steps towards making your and your clients/loved ones guts happier!

Speakers:

Joanna Baker (Everyday Nutrition founder and Accredited Practising Dietitian)
Joanna has over 20 years' experience in the healthcare industry, initially as a Registered Nurse and later as a Dietitian and Nutritionist. Due to her medical background, Joanna is particularly adept at managing complex gut health issues. Joanna has also suffered with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and food intolerance her entire life. She know first-hand what it's like to live with unpredictable gut upsets and dietary restrictions. At Everyday Nutrition, she aims to help people to pinpoint their food triggers, enabling them to identify what foods they can enjoy while keeping their gut happy at the same time.

Dr. Jason Hawrelak is a researcher, educator, and clinician with over 20 years' clinical experience. He did his PhD examining the capacity of probiotics, prebiotics and herbal medicines to modify the GIT microbiota and teaches widely, both in Australia and internationally, on these topics. He has published extensively (including 20 textbook chapters) and his research has been cited over 1,100 times. Dr. Hawrelak is on the Medical Nutrition Council of the American Society for Nutrition and is a Fellow of both the American College of Nutrition and the Naturopaths and Herbalists Association of Australia. Additionally, Dr. Hawrelak is Chief Research Officer at ProbioticAdvisor.com, which offers a searchable database that enables easy, evidence-based prescribing of probiotic products and online resources for clinicians to learn more about the human microbiome and how they can positively influence these ecosystems.
