Nutrition and Mental Health: Across the lifespan

This webinar will focus on an overview of mental health issues that emerge across the lifespan. Specifically focusing on adolescents and young adults as well as key vulnerable populations including those living with a disability. It will involve a range of practitioners and researchers.

Speakers:

Tracy Burrows is a Fellow of Dietitians Australia and a Professor in Nutrition and Dietetics at The University of Newcastle. She has developed a program of research in nutrition and mental health with a focus on addictive overeating in addition to other areas including weight management, e-health and dietary assessment. She has over 180 peer reviewed publications and received >$6 million in research funding and received numerous prestigious awards including The Hunter Medical research institute mid-career researcher of the year in 2020.

Dr. Hiba Jebeile is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and post-doctoral researcher at the University of Sydney, based at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Her research focuses on the use of dietary interventions for the treatment of adolescent obesity and the association between diet interventions and mental health. Hiba is currently leading an international collaboration, the EDIT Collaboration, assessing individual eating disorder risk during obesity treatment and exploring the feasibility of mental health screening within adolescent obesity treatment services.

Sue Gerbert is an APD who has been working with people with a disability in Victoria for over 30 years, She has worked with people of all ages who live with disability, with the majority of her clients having an intellectual disability. Many of her clients experience multiple disabilities including mental illness. Sue is also a member of the Dietitians Australia Disability Interest Group leadership team and is currently working at Your Community Health in Preston, Melbourne.

Dr. Melinda Hutchesson is a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition & Dietetics at the University of Newcastle. Her research focuses on improving health behaviours among young adults for mental health promotion and chronic disease prevention.
