The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) is excited to bring you the Introduction to Disability and Inclusion for Dietitians Evergreen Course. This course has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services to increase the capacity of dietitians to respond to the needs of people with disability.

Audience: this course is designed to support all dietitians to improve their confidence and skill working with people with disability.

Learning outcome:
  • To increase the capacity of all dietitians to confidently deliver the best possible nutrition care to people with disability

Course overview:

Over 5 modules, this course provides information, resources, recommended reading and case studies to enhance your active learning experience.

Module 1 is called 'Disability foundations'. Delve into the biopsychosocial model of disability and further develop an understanding and appreciation of the legislation, policy and principles that support safe practice through a human rights approach and cultural competency lens.

Module 2 is called 'Health and function'. This module is an introduction to the concept of function and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), reorienting dietetic practice to focus on functional outcomes.

Module 3 is called 'Communication'. Explore strategies and tools to improve how communication accessible your dietetic practice is for people with a communication disability.

Module 4 is called 'Supporting people with a disability where they live, work and play'. Explore how to collaboratively set functional goals that support behaviour change to create environments that support independence, choice and control.

Module 5 is called 'Navigating funding'. Upskill on how to support people to navigate funding to access dietetic services and recognise our roles and obligation under each of the systems.


Access to the course: new registrants will be automatically uploaded to the Learning Management System (LMS). Instructions for accessing the course will be included in the order confirmation email. Registrants will have access to the course for 12 months from their enrolment date.

Format: Evergreen courses are entirely online and self-paced.

CPD hours: this course is worth 20 CPD hours.

Certificate: upon completion of the course, you will be able to download your Professional Certificate from the LMS.
