Code of conduct for dietitians
Our professional standards
It's important dietitians deliver high-quality services wherever they practice. That's why we've developed professional standards for you to follow.
Read our standards:
Our Code of Professional Conduct is the national standard for conduct as a dietitian.
Our Statement of Ethical Practice shows you how to be an ethical dietitian.
Our standards exist to:
- support high-quality practice
- promote safe and evidence-based services
- guide ethical decisions
- encourage ongoing professional learning
Our standards also support consumer rights.
All members and accredited practising dietitians (APDs) must follow our professional standards.
Accredited practising dietitians
People trust the experience and abilities of APDs.
APDs must follow our standards and the rules of the Accredited Practising Dietitians Program.
Strength of our standards
As a self-regulated profession, we must have strong professional standards.
The APD Program meets the standards of the National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professionals.
Our standards are as good as, or better than, other health professions.
Complaints about dietitians
If a person has concerns about your conduct, they can make a complaint.
We follow a fair complaints process governed by our complaints by-law.
