This webinar is brought to you by the DA Education Centre (2020) and is part of our NAIDOC Week celebration.

This webinar will introduce participants to the theory and impact of institutional racism in healthcare upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Increased understanding about racism and institutional racism.
  • Increased knowledge about the impact of institutional racism in healthcare upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Introduction to auditing institutional racism in healthcare organisations. 

Speakers: 

Dr Chris Bourke is Strategic Programs Director at the AHHA where he leads the work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Chris is a Gamillaroi man and Australia’s first Indigenous dentist.  From 2011 to 2016, Chris was a Member of the ACT Legislative Assembly, with multiple ministerial portfolios.  His clinical positions have spanned private practice, Aboriginal Medical Services, and health departments across Australia. Chris has postgraduate diplomas in Public Health and Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) and an MBA. He is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at Melbourne University and Adjunct Associate Professor at Griffith University.

Tracy Hardy is a Gamilaroi woman, an APD and founder of Wattleseed Nutrition, Health and Wellbeing. Wattleseed Nutrition is a 100% Aboriginal owned business based on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Tracy takes a personalised approach, holistic and, culturally-centred approach to food, food environments, meal patterns, eating habits, health and wellbeing. She truly believes in the strength of healing power of understanding and sustaining our connections to traditional foods, lands, and cultural practices.
