About the webinar: 

In this webinar, Rayleen Brown will provide a short presentation on her business and journey in the bushfood industry, and then introduce the work that Rayleen and the other State Directors have been doing since 2019 in the Indigenous Food Sovereignty space and the role of FNBBAA. First Nations Bushfood & Botanicals Alliance Australia is the Indigenous National Peak Body for establishing benchmarks in in indigenous culture and ICIP, IP and IK provenance and Compliance. Their focus is on promoting and extracting value from the Australian Sovereign Foods and Botanicals sector for the shared benefit of First Nations Community, Culture, Country and people.

This information can help dietitians to better understand the importance of promoting the use of wild harvest bush tucker as a way to support livelihoods and preserve Indigenous cultural heritage. It can also inform their recommendations for incorporating traditional foods into the diets of Indigenous communities.

Speaker:

Rayleen Brown's insistence on using only wild harvest bush tucker sourced directly from the women who gather the food, as a way to support livelihoods and the continuation of connection to story and country, is well known and respected. Rayleen has also contributed to research in her region around the growth and development of bush foods and their potential. Rayleen is continuing to help raise the profile of bush foods, opportunities for people on country using bush foods and wants better protection for the ecological knowledge rights of people to the food that has sustained their communities for thousands
of years. Rayleen currently the Chair of the First Nations Bushfood and Botanicals Alliance Australia, a body that was created in 2019 for Indigenous Business/organisations to strengthen their capability, participation in the industry and creating self-determination in remote and regional areas.
