- Participant recruitment for paediatric research using social media: A practical 'how to' guide for researchers - Sarah Lang
- Informing online dietetics professional practice: The development and pilot testing of the social media evaluation checklist - Kelly Squires
- A mixed methods study to inform the development and implementawtion of eHealth in a bariatric surgery service in an Australian public hospital - Charlene Wright

Application into practice:

- Social media platforms are being increasingly used to support participant recruitment into paediatric health-related research. Dietitians can use the six-phase approach developed in this study to effectively use social media as a recruitment strategy for paediatric research studies.
- Social media is a fast and easy way to access nutrition information, but it is also commonly a source of misinformation. APDs from the University of Newcastle have developed a tool to assist dietitians and students in ensuring social media posts are ethical and meet professional standards.
- The delivery of delivering dietary information via online approaches may be beneficial in practice as the ease of access is a facilitator to patients. This presentation will also discuss methods that may be suitable include text message and email approaches.

Speakers:

Dr Sarah Lang is an early career researcher and an Accredited Practising Dietitian. Her research aims to optimise nutrition and healthy eating behaviours during key life stages, including childhood, adolescence, and pregnancy. Sarah's research focuses on reducing the risk of long-term chronic disease, including cardiovascular disease and type two diabetes. Her doctorate research explored stakeholder perspectives of specialist Australian paediatric weight management services and programs for adolescents and their families. Sarah currently works as a research fellow with Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI).

Kelly Squires is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics with the University of Newcastle. She brings a wealth of clinical expertise and a profound commitment to effective teaching and learning strategies to her role. With a focus on bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world practice, Kelly collaborates closely with students, equipping them to transition into clinical settings. Kelly's dedication extends beyond the classroom, where she seeks to find innovative solutions to contemporary challenges. Recognising the misinformation plaguing social media platforms, she and her colleagues embarked on a mission to empower dietitians and students. Their efforts culminated in creating a tool designed to foster the creation of ethical and professional nutrition content amidst the digital landscape.

Charlene Wright is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and PhD candidate in the School of Applied Psychology at Griffith University. She is passionate about supporting individuals who have undergone bariatric surgery. Particularly interested in incorporating health psychology and behaviour change in combination with digital health.
