The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) is excited to bring you the Clinical Dietetics for Bariatric Surgery Evergreen course - Module 4: Nutritional management pre-surgery.

Audience: this course is designed for dietitians with 1 – 3 years’ experience in practice. This course can also be used as a refresher if you are returning to practice within this area.

Learning outcomes:
  • Apply standardised nutrition language, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning to the nutritional assessment and diagnosis of candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery
  • Integrate the elements of evidence-based practice to provide motivational interviewing and behaviour change principles to prepare candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS)
  • Interpret and explain the principles of using very low-calorie diets for preoperative liver preparation in candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS)
  • Integrate the elements of evidence-based practice to provide individualised and culturally relevant preoperative medical nutrition therapy including very low-calorie diets

Course overview:

This module is the fourth of 6 modules in the Clinical Dietetics for Bariatric Surgery Evergreen course. The aim of this module is to give dietitians the ability to provide evidence-based preoperative medical nutritional therapy to candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS).


Access to the course: new registrants will be automatically uploaded to the Learning Management System (LMS). Instructions for accessing the course will be included in the order confirmation email. Registrants will have access to the course for 12 months from their enrolment date.

Format: Evergreen courses are entirely online and self-paced.

CPD hours: this module is worth 3 CPD hours.
