The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) is excited to bring you the Clinical Dietetics for Bariatric Surgery Evergreen Course.

Audience: this course is designed for dietitians with 1 – 3 years’ experience in practice. This course can also be used as a refresher if you are returning to practice within this area.

Course overview:

Over 6 modules, this course provides information, resources, recommended reading and case studies to enhance your active learning experience.

Module 1 is called 'Introduction'. The aim of this module is to provide an overview of obesity and bariatric surgery and the relationship between the two, and to develop and understanding of the role of the dietitian within the multidisciplinary team supporting patients electing for bariatric surgery.

Module 2 is called 'Bariatric procedures'. The aim of this module is to provide detail on the common bariatric surgery procedures in Australia and worldwide, including their classification, patient selection criteria, expected outcomes, implications, and possible complications.

Module 3 is called 'Management of macronutrients and micronutrients'. The aim of this module is to build understanding of the nutritional management of the patient with bariatric surgery with respect to both macro- and micronutrients.

Module 4 is called 'Nutritional management pre-surgery'. The aim of this module is to give dietitians the ability to provide evidence-based preoperative medical nutritional therapy to candidates for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS).

Module 5 is called 'Nutritional management post surgery'. The aim of this module is to give dietitians the ability to manage the postoperative nutrition of the patient with metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS).

Module 6 is called 'Different modalities'. The aim of this module is to provide an understanding of the different non-surgical modalities available to the bariatric surgery candidate.


Access to the course: new registrants will be automatically uploaded to the Learning Management System (LMS). Instructions for accessing the course will be included in the order confirmation email. Registrants will have access to the course for 12 months from their enrolment date.

Format: Evergreen courses are entirely online and self-paced.

CPD hours: this course is worth 20 CPD hours.

Certificate: upon completion of the course, you will be able to download your Professional Certificate from the LMS.
