The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) is excited to bring you the Nutrition Support for Critical Care Evergreen Course.

Audience: this foundational course is designed for dietitians with 1 – 3 years’ experience in practice. This course can also be used as a refresher if you are returning to practice within this area.

Course overview:

Over 3 modules, this course provides information, resources, recommended reading and case studies to enhance your active learning experience.

Module 1 is called 'Physiology of the body in health and critical illness'. The aim of this module is to help dietitians understand what is happening at a metabolic level while a patient is critically ill, and be able to assess and monitor nutrition requirements in accordance with the physiological demands of critical illness.

Module 2 is called 'Practical considerations for ICU dietitians'. The aim of this module is to familiarise dietitians with the ICU environment, including understanding common ICU equipment, fluid types and medications.

Module 3 is called 'Nutritional Assessment in the ICU'. The aim of this module is to help dietitians understand common nutrition screening tools and how nutritional status can be influenced in ICU.


Access to the course: new registrants will be automatically uploaded to the Learning Portal. Instructions for accessing the course will be included in the order confirmation email. Registrants will have access to the course for 12 months from their enrolment date.

Format: Evergreen courses are entirely online and self-paced.

CPD hours: this module may be worth 15 CPD hours if the activity aligns with your CPD learning goals. CPD logs will need to be updated manually after course completion to reflect the number of hours taken by the individual to complete the course.

Certificate: upon completion of the course, you will be able to download your Professional Certificate from the LMS.
