The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) is excited to bring you the Type 1 Diabetes Management for Dietitians Evergreen course - Module 2: Management of type 1 diabetes.

Audience: this course is designed for dietitians with 1 – 3 years’ experience in practice. This course can also be used as a refresher if you are returning to practice within this area.

Learning outcomes:
  • Explain the role of insulin as the treatment for type 1 diabetes
  • Identify the different types of insulin and their actions
  • Describe the different options available for insulin delivery and why they might be used
  • Explain the role of blood glucose monitoring in the management of type 1 diabetes
  • Describe the different options available for people with type 1 diabetes to monitor their blood glucose levels
  • Identify the factors that need to be considered when determining glycaemic targets for an individual with type 1 diabetes
  • Describe the recommended glycaemic targets for a non-pregnant adult with type 1 diabetes who does not have other risk factors including impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia
  • Explain the important management considerations for special populations including children and adolescents, women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy and older adults with type 1 diabetes.

Course overview:

This module is the second of 5 modules in the Type 1 Diabetes Management for Dietitians Evergreen course. The aim of this module is to focus on insulin therapy, blood glucose monitoring and glycaemic targets. Nutrition, diabetes-related complications and collaborative care are discussed in upcoming modules.


Access to the course: new registrants will be automatically uploaded to the Learning Management System (LMS). Instructions for accessing the course will be included in the order confirmation email. Registrants will have access to the course for 12 months from their enrolment date.

Format: Evergreen courses are entirely online and self-paced.

CPD hours: this module is worth 4 CPD hours.
