Audience: this course is designed for dietitians with 1 – 3 years’ experience in practice. This course can also be used as a refresher if you are returning to practice within this area.
Learning outcomes:
- Discuss the impact of macronutrients on blood glucose levels and insulin requirements
- Explain the purpose of carbohydrate counting
- Describe the different levels of carbohydrate counting
- Describe the impact of glycemic index on blood glucose levels
- Discuss key nutrition principals/considerations for different groups including children, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly
- Educate clients and their families on the dietary management of type 1 diabetes
- Undertake the Nutrition Care Process with a newly diagnosed client with type 1 diabetes
Course overview:
This module is the third of 5 modules in the Type 1 Diabetes Management for Dietitians Evergreen course.
Access to the course: new registrants will be automatically uploaded to the Learning Management System (LMS). Instructions for accessing the course will be included in the order confirmation email. Registrants will have access to the course for 12 months from their enrolment date.
Format: Evergreen courses are entirely online and self-paced.
CPD hours: this module is worth 4 CPD hours.
