Membership categories and fees

We have different memberships to suit people who are:

  • paid work of 20 hours or more per week (full-time)
  • paid work of fewer than 20 hours per week (part-time)
  • unemployed
  • on a career break, parental leave or full-time study
  • student
  • non-practising dietitian
  • living overseas
  • retired

Fees are different for each membership category.

New joins and upgrades are not automatically approved. Verification of qualifications must be confirmed and it may take a few days before your application is approved. Once membership is approved you'll be emailed a welcome pack.

Please note membership confirmation letters are no longer automatically generated. If you require one please contact us at membership@dietitiansaustralia.org.au 

Paying your fees

You can pay your membership fees either:

  • in full each year, or
  • in 3 equal instalments

If you pay your fees in instalments, an administration charge applies to each payment.

You can't pay your membership fees monthly.

There are no refunds on membership fees.

Membership of Dietitians Australia is Membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia. All fees will be paid to, and all benefits received from, the Dietitians Association of Australia. 

Partial year discount

If you join or renew your membership after 1 July, you might get a discounted fee.

Administrative fees

Administrative fees apply for:

  • instalment payments
  • declined payments
  • renewing outside of the renewal period
  • taking a break outside of the renewal period
  • new member cancellations

Changing your membership category

You might want to change your membership category if you've:

  • finished your studies (see student upgrade)
  • returned to study
  • increased your work hours
  • decreased your work hours
  • moved overseas
  • retired

Refunds aren't given if you downgrade your current membership.

Taking a break from your membership

You can take a break from your membership for up to 3 years.

You might want to do this to:

  • care for family
  • take extended travel
  • work in a non-dietetic role

If you take a break from your membership, your APD status will also be on hold. This means you can't use the APD credential while you're on your break.

Reinstating your membership

If your membership lapses for fewer than 3 years, you can restart it. You don't need to apply as a new member.

Renewing your membership

Your Dietitians Australia membership runs from 1 January to 31 December each year.

You must renew your membership by the cut-off date.

If you don't renew on time, your membership and APD status will lapse.
