The Centre for Advanced Learning (CAL) is excited to bring you the Nutrition Related Care for Paediatric Diabetes Evergreen course.

This course is an ADEA Endorsed Educational Program.

Audience: this course is designed for dietitians with 3+ years of experience working with paediatric clients, or with adult clients living with diabetes. This course can also be used as a refresher for dietitians returning to practice.

Learning outcomes:
  • Discuss the main differences in the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents
  • Gain in-depth knowledge regarding the management of paediatric type 1 diabetes, including symptoms and diagnosis, insulin therapy, blood glucose monitoring, nutritional management, exercise and nutrition-related comorbidities
  • Describe considerations specific to the management of type 1 diabetes in young people of different ages and stages of development (preschool aged children, school-age children and adolescents)
  • Explain the key considerations in the management of type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents including the role of nutrition and lifestyle management, medical therapies and management of comorbidities

Over 11 modules, the course provides information, resources, and case studies to enhance your active learning experience. The module titles are:
  • Module 1: Pathophysiology and diagnosis of diabetes in children and adolescents
  • Module 2: Care and management of diabetes in children and adolescents
  • Module 3: Mental and emotional health
  • Module 4: Management of type 1 diabetes
  • Module 5: Nutrition for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes
  • Module 6: Exercise for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes
  • Module 7: Management of type 1 diabetes in preschool children
  • Module 8: Management of type 1 diabetes in school aged children
  • Module 9: Management of type 1 diabetes in adolescents
  • Module 10: Nutritional considerations for management of diabetes related comorbidities
  • Module 11: Management of type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents


Access to the course: new registrants will be automatically uploaded to the Learning Management System (LMS). Instructions for accessing the course will be included in the order confirmation email. Registrants will have access to the course for 12 months from their enrolment date.

Format: Evergreen courses are entirely online and self-paced.

CPD hours / ADEA CPD points: this course is worth 11 CPD hours / 11 ADEA CPD points (1 point per module).

Certificate: upon completion of the course, you will be able to download your Professional Certificate from the LMS.
